WHAT FIRST ATTRACTED YOU TO SHORTERM?
I had been working for a high-street recruitment agency and decided I needed a change of scene. I was particularly interested in the engineering sector because the market was so buoyant. My first impressions of Shorterm were hugely positive. I especially liked the fact that the company was extremely professional but had real personality as well.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?
No two days are quite the same. But there are some core activities that every day involves. These include making new business sales calls, refreshing job adverts and finding suitable candidates for current opportunities. It is a full 360-degree recruitment role, so you have to be able to manage multiple relationships and handle lots of different tasks at once. You also have to spend some time getting to know your market, as this is key to being a successful and credible consultant.

YOUR PROUDEST ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
Earning myself a promotion last year was something I am incredibly proud of. I put it down to my ability to create new business opportunities and build relationships at all levels – although it probably wouldn’t have been possible without all the support I have received from my line manager and business leaders.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND SHORTERM TO A FRIEND?
Yes! For me, it’s been an opportunity to learn a brand new industry and work with some of the best people in the business. It also gives you the chance to develop high-level relationships and be a trusted advisor for both candidates and clients.

WHAT DOES BEING A SHORTERM RECRUITMENT CONSULTANT INVOLVE?
This is a 360-degree recruitment role. So while a huge chunk of every day is taken up with new business sales calls and resourcing for candidates, there are lots of additional activities I get involved in as well, from researching specific industries and companies to resolving queries regarding pay.

HAS THE REALITY OF WORKING HERE MATCHED UP TO THE PROMISE?
Definitely. I was told it would be different from anywhere I’ve worked before – and it is. I feel I can really shape what my career looks like here, and the opportunity to earn fantastic rewards has proved really achievable.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
Although I now have lots of loyal clients who will contact me directly with their requirements, I still love doing new business sales. This part of the role gives me a real buzz and I enjoy working with a strong team of people who all have a similar drive.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT?
You must be prepared to go out and develop your own business. It’s a competitive market and, while the rewards are fantastic, you really do have to earn them. Also, you have to focus on both sales and service – one without the other just doesn't work.
